Garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) is a fast growing annual herb that is native to Egypt and west of Asia, and presently it is cultivated in all over the world. In local languages, garden cress (GC) is also known by 'Chandrasur' in India and 'Chamsur' in Nepal, and it is considered as an important medicinal crop in Nepal.
Garden cress is added to soups, sandwiches and salads for its tangy flavour.It is also eaten as sprouts, and the fresh or dried seed pods can be used as a peppery seasoning. It's shoots are commonly used in sandwiches with boiled eggs, mayonnaise and salt.It is beneficial for coughs, vitamin C deficiency, constipation, tendency toward infection (poor immune system), and fluid retention.
